CITRUS AND SALT
Fresh vibes, Mexican flavors and a beautiful venue were all on the menu last weekend at the new Citrus and Salt location in Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood. This Coastal Southern California meets Mexican, baja inspired menu is delectable, lively and fun. The sprawling seaport space is filled with bright colors and unique textures while the menu elevates the restaurant to another level. Chef Jason Santos combines his enthusiasm for Mexican street food and local fresh seafood, while the bar offers a plethora of different concoctions to excite your palate. The margaritas are some of the best I’ve had in the Boston area. The food combined with the ambience, experience, customer service and affordable price point makes this a must-try establishment when visiting Boston.
A few of the dishes I’d recommend ordering for the table include fresh guacamole and chips, the grilled street corn, short rib carne asada fries, and sesame crusted avocado tacos. The grilled street corn is served coated in flaming hot cheeto crumbs, smoked mayonnaise, and cotija, a combination that provides impeccable flavor with a hint of heat. This would be my top recommendation of all the dishes on offer. The short rib carne asada fries are served smothered in pepper jack cheese and topped with pickled onions. The savory short ribs are balanced with notes of brightness from the pickled onions creating another delicious plate. The sesame crusted avocado tacos, served with a special sauce, lettuce, string cheese and pickled onions, were creamy, crunchy and enticing. And there are so many other appetizing options available as well.
My recommended cocktails on the menu include the strawberry frozen margarita for tequila lovers and the primadonna which has a vodka base. My favorite cocktail, aptly named I didn’t text you tequila did, is comprised of espolon tequila, passionfruit and dragonfruit, and strikes a beautiful balance between sour and sweet. It is definitely worth trying for those who enjoy a weekend cocktail.
This is an absolutely beautiful restaurant and worth a trip for fellow foodies.
