CURIOUSER & CURIOUSER CAVEAU
Caveau welcomes guests in an old-timey apothecary shop where adventurers are transported through a narrow underground subway station tunnel into an otherworldly, magical destination reminiscent of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. In the main dining space, appropriately named Caveau or the vault, staff is quick to greet and explain what one is to expect throughout their evening. The ambience is one of intrigue and mystery, but the staff does a phenomenal job guiding guests through menu options and offering substitutions.
The drinks sampled throughout the course of the evening included: the queen of hearts cocktail, the o.g passion substitute grey goose and the contraband old fashioned. The tapas sampled included: wagyu steak tataki, mushroom spring rolls, bora bora shrimp, chicken shumai and frozen coconut tiramisu. Overall, the meal was absolutely delicious; however, there were a few items I would skip the next time I return. The items I would recommend include: the queen of hearts cocktail, wagyu steak tataki and mushroom spring rolls. These tapas were flavorful, mouthwatering and cooked to perfection. The queen of hearts cocktail was beautifully balanced. It was sweet, but not overpowering.
The items I would skip include: the chicken shumai, bora bora shrimp and frozen coconut tiramisu. These recommendations are not determined by a lack of execution, but rather preference.
Overall, this was a great night and a fun experience. The ambience, food, cocktails and music made for a mysterious, magical night filled with flavor. COJE management has created another gem in Boston along with other favorites such as Yvonne’s, Coquette and Lolita’s. I would rate my experience at Caveau 4.5 out of 5 stars. I will definitely be back.
