FACCIA A FACCIA
One of the best restaurants in Boston for gluten-sensitive individuals is Faccia a Faccia in Boston. This new coastal Italian restaurant focuses on fresh, seasonal dishes from award-winning chef, Ken Oringer. I have to commend Oringer on his ability to give every flavor purpose without adding an extraneous flourish in an attempt to keep with trends. This makes the food truly authentic and delicious without overwhelming the palette.
A few of my favorite dishes include: whipped ricotta, mozzarella sticks, fried artichokes and the chicken milanese. The whipped ricotta plate is balanced and fresh with a hint of umami flavors. This small plate is served with roasted mushroom salad, miso, apple balsamic, smoked trout roe and sesame. The mozzarella sticks, which are gluten free and made from a chickpea flour are absolutely delectable and topped with ossetra caviar. The carciofi fritti (fried artichokes) are also gluten free and made in a modern roman style that is a great option for the table. The highlight of the meal was the entree I ordered- the chicken milanese. The chicken was made with chicken cutlets pounded flat and cooked till deliciously crispy. This gluten free dish is served with shaved artichoke salad, black truffle and chicken jus for an amazing meal.
The cocktail and wine list is superb and meant to compliment the coastal Italian cuisine. The best cocktail is the orangie fizz, which is a light, flavorful spritz. This fizz is made of aperol, italicus, aquafaba, lemon and sparkling water. A few other noteworthy drinks on the menu include: calabrian heat, la dolce vita and 1794.
